| During
my solo thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail in 1999, I was exposed
to a number of approaches to lightweight and ultralight hiking
strategies. Since then, I have slowly applied these ideas to my
own equipment and other outdoor pusuits. After my thru-hike I
joined ALDHA-West
eager to learn more about long-distance hiking. In the Fall of
2000 I went back to school in Logan , Utah and also began working
with a local bag maker. After a year of building big heavy packs,
I was anxious to utilize the skills I had learned and apply them
to lightweight and ultralight equipment. In 2001, Ultralight Adventure
Equipment was born. Since starting ULA-Equipment, I have graduated
from the local University and dedicated the majority of my time
to filling orders, learning how to run a small business, and hiking.
Since completing the Pacific Crest Trail, I've also completed
thru-hikes of the Arizona Trail ('04) and Hayduke Trail ('05).
All said, my feet have ~4,400 miles of long trail experience.
