1. TORSO FIT
- Standing upright, tilt your chin to your chest.
- Locate your C7 Vertabra—the large lump at the base of your neck.
- With flexible tape, measure down the length and natural curvature of your spine to your iliac crest/ the top of your hipbone.
- This measurement in inches is your torso length.
TIP: If you're between 2 sizes, order the smaller size. Still not sure? Contact us.
2. TORSO CHART
We've found most people in these height ranges fall into these torso/pack sizes. That being said, it is always best to measure your torso using the guide above.
If you have questions, or your torso size doesn’t seem to make sense for your height, please contact us.
3. HIPBELT FIT
Use the following method to determine your hipbelt inches, then head to Step 4 to see the hipbelt size you need.
MEN
Pant Waist Size + 2".
WOMEN
CURVY HIPS: Smallest part of your waist + 5".
STRAIGHT HIPS: Smallest part of your waist + 3".
KIDS
Smallest Part of waist + 2".
4. HIPBELT SIZE CHART
Find the hipbelt measurement you calculated in Step 3 on the chart. That will be your hipbelt size.
TIP: If you are on the outer edge of a size, order the larger size. [ Ex: If you are 38", you will notice 38" is the last number of the Medium Hipbelt and the first number of the Large Hipbelt. You would want to order a Large.]
5. SHOULDER STRAPS
The downward slope of your shoulder profile usually determines strap preference. You can assess your shoulder slope profile by looking in a mirror or having a friend look at the angle of your shoulder from the base of your neck to your shoulder point.
If there is relatively little or no downward slope, you have what is referred to as flat or squared shoulders.
If there is a noticeable downward slope, you have what is referred to as standard or sloping shoulders.
J STRAPS
J-straps are the traditional straight straps. They are best suited for people with flat or square shoulders, as their flat shape provides better surface contact and less rub.
S STRAPS
S-straps contour body curves. They are best suited for people with standard or sloping shoulders, as their contoured shape better hugs your shoulder slope.
TIP: If you have a short torso but a larger upper body, you may need a slightly longer strap. If you are very large in the upper body, you might need XL shoulder straps. Contact us, and we would be happy to make these customizations so your pack is comfortable and fits well.

FAQ’S
Q: HOW WATERPROOF IS THE SEA TO SUMMIT DRY BAG THAT’S INCLUDED?
A: The Sea to Summit Dry Bag included, is made from super strong and abrasion resistant 420 D nylon fabric, a TPU laminated fabric with 10,000 mm waterhead. Seams are waterproof, double stitched, reinforced, and tape sealed.
Any roll-top dry bag must be closed properly to ensure water can’t get in – Sea to Summit recommends at least three rolls before closing the buckle. Sea to Summit also recommends that sensitive electronic devices be ‘double bagged’ for maximum protection. This particular dry bag is not intended for situations where it will be fully submerged under water.
If you intend to use another dry bag with the Epic, we recommend reading the manufacturer’s instructions and recommendations for use.
Q: WHERE DO I STRAP MY PACKRAFT?
A: Packraft carry straps have been designed into bottom panel of the Epic, to allow for easy carrying and quick access.
Q: HOW DOES THE TOP OF THE EPIC STAY CLOSED? IS IT EASY TO ACCESS THE MAIN BODY OF THE PACK BAG?
A: The Sea to Summit Dry Bag included with the Epic has a Waterproof Hypalon® roll top closure. Once you are packed, the collar can be rolled down upon itself to effectively create a barrier to water penetration. The top compression strap of the Epic then goes over the rolled dry bag and clips to the front of the pack, keeping the dry bag in place.
As for access, once the dry bag is rolled down and the compression strap is clipped, you would need to unbuckle the compression straps and unroll the collar to access the inside of the pack.
Q: HOW DO THE EPIC AND THE DRY BAG ATTACH TO EACH OTHER?
The two compression straps on each side of the Epic thread through the Hypalon lash loops on the dry bag for a secure fit. To remove the dry bag, simple unclip the buckles, and pull the dry bag out of the Epic frame.
The removable water bottle holders are suspended between the lash loops on 3/4 inch webbing with locking clips.
Q: CAN I USE ANOTHER DRY BAG? OTHER SIZED DRY BAGS?
We recommend the Sea to Summit Big River Dry Bag, as it has the Hypalon lash loops to secure the compression straps. The adjustable side pockets only work with this bag. Sea to Summit Big River Dry Bags are the perfect way to keep your gear dry. Constructed of 420D nylon fabric with a TPU lamination, these dry bags are durable, strong, and abrasion-resistant. The Hypalon roll-top closure doesn’t wick water, and Hypalon lash loops allow secure attachment and stacking on watercraft, motorcycles, or other equipment. A white interior laminate affords greater visibility and Field Repair Buckles can be replaced in seconds with just a Philips screwdriver.

I have been using that pack for 10 years, on long pack rafting trip with a mix of about 50% walking. The load is between 23 and 25Kg. It’s still in very good shape, just the dry bag I had to re-waterproof. If I had to replace that bag, I would go for the same

I love my ULA epic.
It carries so well I find myself not caring “too” much about cutting weight in my kit, and rather add some luxuries.
I think these packs weigh just enough to get the full comfort with a great frame and hip belt. I carry 10-16kg(22-35 pounds) on my trips.
I like a slightly taller pack then what is recommended, so maybe concider sizing up if you’re close to the next size.
I use it for backpacking.
My pack weighs 1,4kg with 2 large shoulder pockets, 65liter drybag and no sidepockets.
If you’re not immeadietly experiencing the comfort Im speaking of, try packing it slightly different so that the backframe doesnt bend or “sticks out”.
Bruno Bronosky –
Not only is it great for camping, this is the only piece of luggage I carry on any trip. It’s huge, but I’ve never been prevented from using it as a carry on. I carry a large lithium battery and mention it any time they make the announcement about “running out of overhead bins”. They usher me on because they can’t check lithium batteries.

Recently purchased the epic for packrafting missions in the backwoods. We backpacked up the queets river for a few days then floated our way back to the trailhead. Having the raft on the outside was very handy as we had to cross the river a few times in the beginning and didn’t have to open our dry bags or do much to get them off the bottom of the pack. I packed my bag to the maximum and even used all the storage on the outside, I would say I was around 45-50 lbs. the epic frame made things so comfortable to walk long distances in and having the ability to customize an array of straps that can take pressure off different parts of your back. The pack strapped on the front of my packraft nicely, as well as handling some minor whitewater. It was easy to take off when I would have to portage and easy to strap back on when I got back in the river. Overall the epic made my backpacking/ packrafting experience so much better and easier, I would reccomend it to anyone who is into packrafting in the backwoods.

This pack rocks, and my partner & I plan to use it on the AT for our thru hike next year. It’s simple, totally waterproof, and nearly weightless. One thing it lacks is a way to hang it, say, from a tree when you’re chillin at camp… But I quickly fixed that with braided paracord. I guess hardcore ultralight hikers wouldn’t want that extra tenth of an oz, lol. This pack comfortably holds all my gear, including a BV 500 for my smell-ables. Packing it is a learning curve but once you get the hang of it, it can’t be beat.

Just got back from a 5 day canoe trip in Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada. Could not have been more impressed with this pack. The Epic allowed me to easily carry all of my food and equipment while portaging between lakes, without having to worry about extra dry bags and keeping my stuff dry. The pack also sits low enough (compared to standard backpacks) to not interfere with carrying a canoe on your shoulders. Canoe tripping can be pretty tough on gear, but the pack still looks brand new and I expect this to be a lifetime investment. Thanks ULA!

Best Packrafting Pack. I love this pack. Comfortable with the packraft on the top. 100% waterproof due to the dry bag. Durable yet quite light.

This is an amazing piece of equipment! We’ve owned and abused 4 or these Epic packs in the tropical jungles for a few years now, and it’s been one of the best gear investments we’ve ever made.
