Wage Range: Competitive/ Experience-based
Close Date: Open Until Filled
ULA Equipment is looking for a versatile Product Designer & Production Specialist to join our Logan-based team. This isn’t a “sit-behind-a-desk-all-day” design job. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of a product—from the first conceptual sketch and 3D model to the moment the laser cutter hits the fabric.
You will help us evolve our legendary ultralight lineup while dreaming up the next generation of packs and accessories that will define the future of thru-hiking.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Design: Create and refine designs for ultralight backpacks and outdoor accessories using Rhino, Adobe Illustrator, and other industry- standard design programs.
- Prototyping & Patterning: Move quickly from concept to physical prototype. You’ll be responsible for hands-on patterning and iterative testing to ensure every gram counts.
- Product Evolution: Audit and improve existing ULA products based on athlete feedback, material advancements, and production efficiencies.
- Production Integration: Step onto the floor to assist with technical production tasks, including operating the fabric laser cutter, stack cutting, and preparing components for our sewing team.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the production manager to ensure designs are optimized for in-house manufacturing.
Qualifications:
- Technical Proficiency: Proven experience with Rhino and Adobe Illustrator is a must.
- Design Background: Previous experience in soft goods/outdoor product design is highly preferred.
- Maker Mindset: You must be comfortable working with industrial machinery and have a”hands-on” approach to problem-solving.
- Industry Passion: A deep understanding of technical fabrics (X-Pac, Robic, Ultra, ECOPAK, etc.) and the specific needs of the ultralight backpacking community.
Perks & Benefits:
- Full benefits package including retirement and healthcare stipends.
- Paid national holidays and paid vacation.
- The chance to see your designs go from screen to trail in a matter of days—all under one roof.
