The removable Dragonfly Hipbelt has been one of our most requested items ever! It's finally here and offered in three sizes, so you can purchase the one that fits and supports you best. Hipbelt clicks into the 1" fixed loops in the bottom corners of your Dragonfly with 1" slik-clips, making it ultra-secure yet easy to remove. Comfortable yet flat, the Dragonfly Hipbelt can be easily stored in the zippered front mesh pocket when not needed or if you need to check your Dragonfly. Hipbelt features a simple daisy chain on each padded wing, so many types of third-party accessories can be secured in place.

ULA’s shoulder straps are so comfortable compared to almost every other bag I’ve tried but when loaded up around capacity is pushing the comfort level for me on longer walks/hikes. Even without a fully fledged frame, I feel like offloading some weight to the hips would be a godsend on multi-day trips with dense packing cubes, electronics and water bottles.
Unfortunately my Ultra Dragonfly doesn’t have the loops for hip belt attachment. Not sure when they started adding the loops but since the area for mounting is pretty tight and tough to get into with a sewing machine, it would be cool if the hip belt came with some easy to attach sturdy loops that could be machine sewn on to where the shoulder strap meets the bottom of the pack!

Even though the Dragonfly is rated to hold a max of 30lbs, some of us get pretty close to that weight and lug around heavy loads for many hours and long distances. Despite how comfortable the pack is on its own, the arrival of the ULA Dragonfly Hip Belt felt like a godsend. I thought about buying hip belts from other companies, but I decided to wait until ULA came out with its own. I’m glad I made that choice. Despite the fact that the pack is relatively “short,” the hip belt hits my body just where it’s supposed to, i.e., at the middle of my iliac crest, right at the top of my hip. For reference, I’m 5’9″, though the placing of the belt on my body makes me think it’ll work for people both shorter and taller than me. Really, it’s the perfect location, and it’s also the perfect size. Also, it’s small enough to be lightweight yet substantial enough to provide great coverage and real relief on those rare occasions you need it. With the bulk of the pack’s weight being held by the hip belt, I feel like I could walk around all day with 30 pounds in my Dragonfly without a problem. The fact that the belt comes off and can be stowed in the front mesh pocket is icing on the cake. Perfection.
